High heels: foot pain, headaches, and migraines… we women must really love to suffer!

The X-ray image shows the foot in a position known as "equinus," where there is high pressure on the forefoot bones and reduced ankle mobility.

Heels of 6 cm increase pressure on the forefoot by 57%, while 9 cm heels raise it by as much as 76%! To reduce the damage without giving up heels, it’s best not to wear them for more than two consecutive hours and to alternate with lower shoes — this helps prevent possible Achilles tendon shortening. Also avoid narrow-pointed shoes, which increase the risk of developing metatarsalgia.

In order to maintain balance while standing, the neck and shoulder muscles tense up and stiffen, becoming more painful and potentially leading to headaches.

This unnatural posture can also alter the spine’s natural curves, increasing thoracic kyphosis and lumbar lordosis.

Wearing high heels too often will eventually lead to painful consequences.
