Ponseti method
Based on a detailed understanding of the pathological and functional anatomy of clubfoot and foot auxology, this method, through precise and delicate manipulative maneuvers associated with a "minimally invasive" surgical gesture, has been shown to:
- Quickly achieve anatomical and functional correction in more than 95% of cases, regardless of the initial severity;
- Prevent and treat potential recurrences with a precise care protocol without necessarily resorting to surgical treatment.
Compared to other techniques or treatment protocols, the Ponseti method provides:
- a) Clinico-functional results both in the short and long term, easily and rapidly reproducible when performed by well-trained medical personnel;
- b) A more cost-effective ratio of 4:1 in terms of cost/effectiveness compared to the Kite manipulative method and the French functional method, and even 6:1 compared to surgical treatment;
- c) A lower risk of recurrence, both in terms of quantity and clinical severity.
Classically, the Ponseti method is divided into three distinct phases:
- THE CORRECTIVE PHASE
- THE MAINTENANCE PHASE WITH THE BRACE
- THE CLINICAL OBSERVATION PHASE AFTER BRACE REMOVAL
